Ginny and Rose happily accept the lucrative agreement to live and work on the farm but Caroline abandons farming for a law career in Des Moines and refuses to take part in the deal. Larry Cook, a prosperous farmer in Iowa, decides to retire and split his acres of land among his three daughters, Ginny, Rose and Caroline. The dramatic catalyst in both works is the division of the father's estate among his three offspring, causing bitter rivalry and ultimately leading to tragedy. The character of Larry Cook corresponds to the title character of that play, while the characters of Ginny, Rose and Caroline represent Lear's daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. It is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Jane Smiley, which itself is a reworking of William Shakespeare's King Lear. ![]() A Thousand Acres is a 1997 American drama film directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Robards. ![]() 6/22/2023 0 Comments Fatal Accusation by Rachel Dylan![]() Though often pushed to the margins, African Americans have enriched a barbecue culture that has come to be embraced by all. It's a smoke-filled story of Black perseverance, culinary innovation, and entrepreneurship. But why is it, asks Adrian Miller-admitted 'cuehead and longtime certified barbecue judge-that in today's barbecue culture African Americans don't get much love? In Black Smoke, Miller chronicles how Black barbecuers, pitmasters, and restauranteurs helped develop this cornerstone of American foodways and how they are coming into their own today. And people aren't just eating it they're also reading books and articles and watching TV shows about it. ![]() ![]() Prepared in one regional style or another, in the South and beyond, barbecue is one of the nation's most distinctive culinary arts. Across America, the pure love and popularity of barbecue cookery have gone through the roof. ![]() 6/21/2023 0 Comments Apples never fall book summary![]() ![]() Then again, perhaps the explanation as simple as writer branding. In the end, it really does not matter that the characters are Australian because the problem here is interchangeable and global. Not that it matters that this story is specifically set in Australia readers in American-or Canada or the U.K.-can easily read into their cultural awareness. That seems unlikely, however, since Canadian and British cop shows are not substantially different from their American cousins relative to the fundamental approach of investigation. Or maybe it is because Australian law enforcement officers take a completely different approach than American cops. It could just be a case that that most of the world is not as familiar with Aussie law enforcement as they are with American cops courtesy of hours of movies and TV shows taking crime in America as the subject. Perhaps because Apples Never Fall is written by an Australian writer and the story is set Down Under, a significant aspect of the story is almost universally overlooked by professional reviewers and bloggers alike.
